The abstract print "FOR YOUR SAFETY 04072018 458pm" is a digital artwork, created with the Brushes Redux iPhone app, and printed at 36x36" on museum-quality Canson Platine Fibre Rag 310gsm archival paper. As the title indicates, the artwork was created on April 7, 2018 at 4:58 pm. While Justin Neely paints using oil and acrylic paints, one of his primary projects involves the use of technology – namely the iPhone or iPad, and the Brushes Redux App. The artwork shown here is infinitely scalable – whether 36x36" or 72x72" – the colors and lines are rich and sharply defined. "FOR YOUR SAFETY" features a brutalist, graffiti-style bright yellow background, black cut-out structure and a neon green swash. Justin Neely is an artist, technologist, writer and translator. His visual art practice includes acrylic and oil painting, pen and ink drawing, and digital painting on desktop and mobile platforms. Neely's artwork has been exhibited in gallery shows in New York, Berlin, and Toronto. He recently created more than 300 original digital paintings and distributed them on Instagram, using the platform as an open sketchbook and gallery. Neely's most recent show is Fresh Paint, a group show at Art of Our Century gallery in Greenwich Village, New York City. The show ran from February 27 – March 22, 2020. An avid student of culture and communication, Neely has studied 10 languages and often uses transliteration and translation in his artwork. Neely taught information design and architecture as an adjunct lecturer at New York City College of Technology (CUNY), and has an undergraduate degree from Amherst College in French and English, with a concentration in Film Studies. He completed a Master’s degree in International Policy Studies at the Monterey Institute of International Studies.
